Mixed units: an example
Say you know your height as 5 ft 7 in but your scale shows 68 kg:
- Convert the height: 5 × 12 + 7 = 67 in, and 67 × 2.54 = 170.2 cm = 1.702 m.
- Use the metric formula: 68 ÷ (1.702 × 1.702) = 68 ÷ 2.897 = 23.5.
Or convert the weight instead: 68 kg × 2.20462 = 149.9 lb, then 703 × 149.9 ÷ 67² = 23.5. Same answer.
