BMI Chart

A BMI chart shows the BMI for every combination of height and weight, colored by category, so you can find yours without doing the math. Find your height, follow it across to your weight, and read the BMI where they meet. Below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is healthy, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or more is obesity.

How to read a BMI chart

  1. Find your height in the left column.
  2. Move across to the column nearest your weight.
  3. Read the number in that cell. That's your BMI, rounded to one decimal place.
  4. Check the color for the category.

If your weight falls between two columns, your BMI is between the two numbers. For an exact figure, use the calculator at the top of the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a different BMI chart for men and women?

No. Adults use the same chart. Children and teens use separate growth charts by age and sex: BMI for kids.

Why isn't my exact weight on the chart?

The table steps in 10 lb or 5 kg so it fits on a page. The calculator gives your exact BMI.

How is the chart calculated?

Every cell uses the standard formula: weight ÷ height squared. The BMI formula.
